Dr. Alvin Lin answered

Osteoarthritis: Osteoarthritis is wear & tear arthritis, not inflammatory type like rheumatoid arthritis. That said, exercise & weight loss (if overweight or obese) are key to treating pain & disability. Check out http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/osteoarthritis/basics/definition/con-20014749. Consider consulting Physical and/or Occupational Therapist depending upon joint that's affected.

Osteoarthritis: Osteoarthritis occurs when the protective cartilage that cushions the ends of your bones wears down over time. There is no way to reverse the damage, but gentle exercise (swimming or walking), weight loss, and controlling underlying conditions such as diabetes can slow the progression of the disease. Meds such as NSAIDS, antidepressants (cymbalta) and cortisone shots can control pain. See your D.r
