Depends: The residual itching and skin disturbance of scabies can take 6 or more weeks to heal. It is a body reaction to scabies fecal material deposited underneath the skin in their burrows.One time treatment with a good scabicide like permethrin 5% (left on 12 hrs))should be enough although re-treatment after 7 days is common. Repeat disease is common if re-exposed and develops quicker.
