What might cause voice changes all of a sudden?

Voice Changes: You may have something on your vocal cords. I would recommend that you see an ENT who could visualize your throat and vocal cords.

Viral illness #1: Laryngitis caused by a viral infection that swells the vocal cords is most likely. Other causes are chronic laryngitis caused by acid reflux, smoke irritation or low grade infection/yeast in those who use inhalers. Voice misuse or overuse, benign vocal cord lesions (nodules/polyps),vocal cord weakness or laryngeal cancer are also causes. If not simple viral infection, see your doc/ENT specialist.
