Karyotyping takes up: to a month for results to return, depending on the lab. The results reveal chromosomal abnormalities. A Chromosomal Microarray reveals deletions or additions in smaller sequences of the genes that are arranged into the chromosomes. For a child with developmental delays, a DNA probe for Fragile X is also done. To detect Down Syndrome or other chromosomal anomaly, a karyotype is sufficient.
