A member asked:

I have a 2 month old baby. i had cold sores ever since my childhood. i also had it 3 times during my pregnancy and i got it now. i'm worried since i read it's dangerous in young babies. is my baby protected w/ my antibodies if i had it my whole life?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

This germ is deadly to babies born through a birth canal infected by the germ during the first outbreak. (Not your case here) It is seldom a problem when they are born to a woman with the history you cited. Your antibodies would protect baby during pregnancy & for the first several months, but that would diminish over time. If you feel a cold sore coming on avoid the kisses for a while.
