Gag reflex: Some children have a sensitive gag reflex. Make sure the pieces she eats are small so they don't elicit a choke and don't allow her to shove too much food in her mouth at one time If it's happening daily, or several times a day. you may want to ask your doctor. In most cases it's a part of normal eating behavior for some children

See Your Doctor: More information is needed such as duration, growth/development/feeding history & more. The causes can be serious ranging from reactive airway disease, GE reflux, congenital anomalies that obstruct swallowing, neurologic conditions, & more. Additionally, there is risk for nutritional deficits. Thorough evaluation is required to elucidate the cause. See your doctor for correct diagnosis & treatment

Evaluation : The swallowing mechanism may be immature in early childhood. Certain foods make her more prone to have this problem. Consider a consultation with speech and swallow clinic. If she coughs for more than two weeks, a chest imaging study may be helpful.
