Treatment failure: Symptoms of an illness that will respond to a particular antibiotic usually start to improve within 3-4 days. If the appropriate antibiotics were prescribed, and they were taken as directed for the full course, symptoms should not return. Relapse of symptoms is generally regarded as a treatment failure, although it is possible that another infection has developed in the interim. Revisit your PCP!

Throat infection: If the infection is viral it is going to run its course irrespective of the antibiotic therapy. Make sure take plenty of fluid and tylenol (acetaminophen) for fever and aches. For some reason fever gets higher and pain does not improve have her examined again for possible culture and different antibiotics.
