A member asked:

My grandchild is a week old and doctors have noticed he only has 1 crease on each hand. what could be the cause?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Normal variation: A single palm crease is present on at least one side in 4% of normal infants and 1% on both sides. It is occasionally found in genetic syndromes like Down syndrome, but other obvious features make that recognizable to most physicians and many lay people.
