There : There are a couple of possibilities for painful toenail...They can get ingrown, where the nail begins to grow into the skin...Like a little knife poking into the skin. Wearing high heels or narrow shoes makes this worse as it pushed the skin into the sharp edge of the nail. You could also have an infection(paronychia) of the nailbed. This has pain with redness, warmth, and sometimes pus draining from the area. You can go to a podiatrist(foot doctor) or family physician to evaluate your symptoms and figure out what the problem is and how to fix it.
