A member asked:

My mom is still smoking after being diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver. will this affect her or cause her to die sooner?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not related: Smoking does not really contribute to developing cirrhosis, and as far as I know, doesn't alter its course. It can itself cause other problems which may shorten life, and nicotine may have drug interactions with some of the medications used to treat cirrhosis. If your mother drinks alcohol, she must stop. There are medical treatment that depend on the kind of cirrhosis. Recommend smoking cessation
