Multi-causes possibl: stiffness of back muscles can come from many reasons, including over-stretching from poorly preped workout, heavy lifting, general inflammation of other systems (in the case of fibromyalgia), changing of endocrine (in case of post menapausal). initial investigation typical include an exam by your doctor, blood draw on CBC, CMP, ESR, TSH. depending on the exam, radiographic studies can be of value.

Several Possibilties: Could be fibro or could have a hormonal component, but depending on location, duration, & other factors, could be due to chronic mechanical problems from short leg to scoliosis, spinal dysfnctn, chronic muscle spasm, mineral deficiencies, organ problems, autoimmune disorder, infection, etc. A history & physical by a good osteopathic dr. may lead to proper diagnosis & treatment.
