A member asked:

Is image quality of magnetic resonance venography for the leg equivalent to ct venography? is there a reason a dr. should opt for one over the other?

No radiation: in the MRI. THe real question is comparison to the more standard, and no radiation, and much cheaper ultrasound. "Magnetic resonance venography can differentiate an acute occlusion from chronic thrombus, but because of its high cost and limited availability, it is not yet used for the routine diagnosis of lower extremity venous occlusion" http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12386751 shows WHEN.
