Social anxiety: Most commonly prescribed meds for (social) anxiety r the ones you've listed: buspar, (buspirone) benzodiazepines (valium/xanax/etc), or antidepressants. Some performers take Inderal (propranolol—a beta blocker for hypertension & rapid heart rate ) for stage fright. Not a good choice if u have asthma. And your doc may not want to rx it for this "off-label" use.

Eliminated most meds: Ssri type antidepressants are usually prescribed for lasting results. Benzodiazepines like valium, ativan, and Klonopin (clonazepam) are in another category of antianxiety medications. They are most effective for the short term.Taken as prescribed these medications have a low probability of being habit forming. You could also try herbal remedies such as velarian root and camomile tea, .
