I have gad. my doctor prescribed zoloft (sertraline) which i know is an antidepressant. i don't have depression. is zoloft (sertraline) good for gad?

Yes. Your doctor: may start with a low dose like 12.5 mg. & slowly titrate up to an optimal dose to avoid initial " activation" or worsening of symptoms. Children, teens & young adults who take Zoloft (sertraline) & similar medications called SSRI's need to have Cognitive Behavioral Therapy regularly. Anxiety & depression exist along a continuum. SSRI's can increase suicidal ideation, thinking about suicide, in this age range.

Zoloft (sertraline) for anxiety: has been shown to be effective in teens, adults and older kids. It is used for both social anxiety disorder and generalized anxiety disorder. It may take a couple of weeks before the full effect is experienced. 12.5 mg is a common starting dose. You'll want to follow up with the prescribing physician after a couple of weeks to discuss your response and to maybe adjust the dose.
