Black spots on gums: Seek attention from a dentist this week. Could be calculus ( debris, plaque), amalgam tatoos ( from fillings ,crowns, dentures),black gum disease from stress smoking autoimmune disease, gingivitis/peridontitis or more serious cancer.Seek medical attention from a dentist this week and get a CBC( blood test for complete blood count).

2 issues: Black marks may be normal pigmentation or manifestation of an anomaly. Bleeding, probably gums not teeth, indicates gum disease. To diagnose and treat both issues your husband needs to see a Pro, a qualified Dentist, sooner rather than later. Your husband has non-self resolving problems that will only worsen with time.

Dental exam needed: Your husband needs to see a dentist.the bleeding gums are unhealthy and need to be treated. The spots may or may not be related to the gum disease. It takes an exam to know exactly what they are. Get him to a dentist.

Gum disease: Black marks on the teeth could be cavities or more likely charter which has been stained by blood The fact that you said he is bleeding win he brushes indicates gingivitis and possibly periodontitis which includes bone loss. These are both gum disesse.
