Acute tonsillitis?: See your doctor for a rapid strep test. If it is positive you need antibiotics .

Ask your surgeon.: Contact your oral surgeon or go to the ER. I'm concerned that you might have a peritonsillar abscess which can be a surgical emergency. Symptoms include throat pain, difficulty swallowing, muffled voice, drooling & airway blockage. Tonsillectomy is curative but your oral surgeon or emergency physician will need to decide if you need immediate intervention.
