A member asked:

Post mitral valve repair surgery w/ diag of exercise induced phtn: does this generally worsen to overall phtn? with or w/o treatment? statistics?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

PHTN: One of the purposes of your mitral valve surgery was to correct the cause of your pulmonary hypertension, so you HAVE been treated. Exercise will make it worse, just as exercise raises systemic BP. Over time, as your heart remodels from your surgery, one hopes that the pHTN will improve and/or resolve but only time will tell. You should repeat your echo in 6 months to a year.
