A member asked:

Will smoking one cigeratte occasionally ,very rarely affect my heart if i have had open heart mitral valve repair surgery about 1 year ago. ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Won't hurt: A rare cigarette won't hurt, but it depends on what you mean by rare, and whether or not you can actually do that. If you can avoid escalating to a regular smoker, fine. Many cannot. Remember the old ads, "just try it for two weeks!" Hope this helps!
