Not gaining weight: Pediasure is better for a 2 years old as it is a meal in itself as it contains the right balance of carbs, proteins and fats for a growing child. If he is a picky eater the try to give him a glass of Pediasure with meals 3 times a day. If his eating is not a problem then his doctor will do more of a work up if he continues not to gain weight. I hope this helps.

Weight gain: A growing 2yo child is expected to gain both weight and height in a 6 month interval. While pediasure is a very good supplement to your child's diet, it will also be important to know the rate at which your child has been growing previously. Your pediatrician can answer those questions using a growth chart and determine if any further management is required.

Check out reason: Both have value as a supplement, but I would not randomly start either in a 2yo until your doc has had a chance to look for a reason. Poor intake is often a cause of poor weight gain, but there are various medical conditions that can also cause this to happen. If the doc finds no signs of a treatable problem s/he can work with you on diet and supplements if needed.
