No data: The effect of Lexapro (escitalopram) on the risk for Alzheimer's has not been sufficiently studied to draw a conclusion. If you are taking it for depression or anxiety and it's working, by all means keep taking it. Thanks for trusting HealthTap!

Neither: While the causes are still unknown, the role of antidepressants is seen as none at all. Now, Alz Disease is not the only dementia and dementia is not the only reason people may have cognitive declines. Depression itself if not treated well can significantly bring loss of intellectual functioning and cloudy memory with difficulty gaining new memories. Over medication or wrong ones can do it too.
