A member asked:

What is your opinion of the mirena (levonorgestrel) iud? i am considering it, but i have seen so many horrible stories about it that i'm very nervous.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Mirena (levonorgestrel): It does work well for women desiring to wait 3-5 years to have a baby. However, the problem with using it in teens like yourself is that over the 5 years it can stay in, most 19 year olds will have multiple sexual partners during that time. Getting an STD while having any IUD intact, though worse if the copper one is in, is a bad idea. So condom use with an IUD becomes very important.
