Yes: Fibroids are extremely common and there is a genetic predisposition or tendency to develop them. Fibroids are the #1 cause of hysterectomy. In one study, up to 70% white women and up to 80% of africanamerican women were found to have fibroids at some point in their lives. Many women with fibroids never know that they have them.
