A member asked:

I am a 47 yr old woman with a walnut sized uterine fibroid that just hurts occasionally. should i just live with it or get a hystorectomy?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Fibroid management: If the fibroid is producing heavy bleeding or pain that interferes with your activities of daily living then removing the fibroid may be a consideration. (myomectomy). If not, your symptom complex and tolerance for discomfort will be your guide. Hysterectomy may not be an option as post-menopausal women produce less estrogen that can feed the fibroids growth.
