Esophagus: This sounds like esophagitis or esophageal spasms. Chest wall pain or costochondritis can occur in this area but is usually associated with tenderness along the breast bone and worse with movement of the chest. Antacids can sometimes help with the reflux that usually causes esophagitis. If they don't, you need to see your doctor to be sure that there is no damage to the esophagus.
