Unfortunately: There is a chance of spreading the herpes simplex virus even when you don't have a lesion. It's possible for people to shed the herpes virus, even when you don't have obvious symptoms, so called asymptomatic shedding. Though the amount of virus is less than when compared to a person with an active lesion, even still, spread is possible.
