Is kissing someone with a cold sore any different than kissing the same person with no current outbreak? (when it come to contagiousness)

Maybe: Some people with cold sores shed the virus even is they don't have active lesions, which means they are contagious. The only way to know this is to do a test at the doctor's office when the person doesn't have a visible cold sore.
