A member asked:

Really bad pain under left rib cage and around back, started from a bad cough, has been 4 weeks and not getting any better even though cough stopped,?

Likely muscle: During and after a bad cough you can pull a muscle between your ribs or aggravate an abdominal muscle. If no shortness of breath and no history of blood clots, likely not a blood clot in your lungs. Other causes are pleurisy which is inflamed lining of the lung due to infection and possible swollen spleen from virus. Pleurisy and muscle inflammation improve with Motrin. Rash? Think shingles.
