I was prescribed from my local er valium 5mg for tmj spasms, ive taken for 10 days. i only took 1, 5mg tablet at bedtime. do i need to taper off?

No: Although you may experience mild "rebound" (a little more trouble falling asleep, maybe slight nervousness) for a day or two after stopping, it's also very possible you won't feel anything at all when you stop. Either way, it's not dangerous to stop "cold turkey" after this dose/duration.

No: You do not need to taper off this medication. It is important to see a dentist or oral surgeon for an evaluation and treatment of the TMJ

No need: Valium is used short-term (3 weeks) as a muscle relaxant. Psychological and/or physical dependence to Valium can develop within a few weeks or months of regular or repeated use.

Yes: Yes. valium can be habituating. YOu need to be managed by a TMJ expert.
