Very rare: ALS has gotten a lot of press lately due to the ice bucket challenge. In reality, it is an extremely rare disease. In the US, about 5,000 people (out of 300,000,000) are diagnosed per year. Hand cramps are not part of the symptom progression of ALS. Nothing is impossible, but it is very unlikely you have the disease. Hope this helps!

Do NOT worry: You do not describe any of the issues found in ALS, and cramps can be due to many causes, most of which are very benign. With your Latino heritage, your general risk is less than 1/3 of Caucasians, and is very low, 0.58 per 100,000.
