No bulge, no hernia: The most consistent symptom of a groin hernia is the presence of a bulge. This may be constant but often enlarges with activity and may seem to go away after laying down. While hernias may cause pain, they usually cause subtle discomfort (also) worsened with activity. This pain may extend into the inner thigh due to nerve irritation.

Bulge: You see a bulge in the area that usually gets large and small. It is usually larger at the end of the day after standing for long times.
