Basement apartment: A humidifier should be used if there is central heating or cooling that dry the air. An air purifier would be even more important if there is excess moisture that could lead to more mold growth. The best purifiers are the ones that circulate the room air through filters, though they are more expensive. Shop around, I personally like IQAir.
