Is it common to live in a basement apartment with very low exposure to sunlight and then develop clinical depression?

Possibly.: Several studies have shown that decreased exposure to sunlight can be a risk factor for depression. In fact, prolonged exposure to light is often used to treat some mood disorders.

That could be.: Although not a common situation, it could stimulate a clinical depression in susceptible people. That could also be a result in any low sunlight situation for susceptible folks no matter where they live. Whatever the outcome one should watch for signs of clinical depression and act quickly to access care for that depression. Prevention with light therapy should precede any clinical intervention.

Living in a basement: I agree with dr. Barbara that kacak of exposure to sun can cause depression , but also living in a basement also due to isolation , lack of activity with no motivation.
