What are the risks of low-dose oral prednisone taken over 1 or 2 decades? i am a vet with allergies to pets. antihistamines not effective anymore.

See allergist: Low dose of predisone for a decade or so may be safe ,.but the risks -as-, lower your immunity to infections ,may increase chances of diabetes ,having high blood pressure and affecting the bones ,all are less likely. Consult allergist ,he may suggest you some other treatment for your allergy .

It depends how low: If the dose is low it will replace what your adrenal makes. Even at that level it is tough sometimes to get off of it. With high doses bad problems can occur in all areas of your body. Talk to your doctor or get another opinion about what is best. Thank you for your service.
