Ask provider: Especially for children and for any other person dependent on you, follow guidelines. It can be risky to add other drugs to a Rx w/out guidance. Call, tell how he's doing, ask for recommendations from that provider. That way - the responsibility is with the proper party. Warm honey-lemon tea may soothe and have him drink lots! of water. A fresh glass each waking hour or so. Call his Dr. It's okay.

Hard to say: I find most parents ignore the obvious cause of a lot of congestion in kids. Fragrances, dust, fumes, smoke, all cause drainage as often as any allergen, but no amount of anti-histamines will change their effect. Checking out the kids sleeping area for these agents and removing as many as you can could help.
