Often your choice: Most of the time, hydrocele surgery is done under a general anesthesia -- you don't see, hear, feel, or know anything at that time. Some urologists do such surgery with "spinal" anesthesia, where you might be numbed from the waist down. VERY RARELY, a dr might simply numb the area, but that is uncommon. Discuss your options with your urologist BEFORE surgery. Good luck!

Generally, general: Anesthesia is provided for this out-patient procedure which is usually not complicated. Surgery is less risky than aspiration for infection and is more likely to last. Some use a laparoscopy method but in any case, it is likely to go well. Talk w/ your surgeon for a Do/Don't list and other info you'd like.
