A member asked:

I'm on day 1 of taking omeprazole for chronic acid reflux but it hasn't started working yet. is it safe to additionally take antacids with this drug?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes: go ahead and take the antacids especially if you know it works. It can take awhile to get relief. The inflammation can take several months to heal. Also don't smoke or use nicotine, caffeine or decaf coffee, reduce to an optimal weight and elevate the head of your bed 4-6 inches on an incline so that the acid at night stays away form the esophagus. The body makes the most acid at night
