A member asked:

Whats the diff between hemiplegic migraine and a tia? docs have suspected both with me but none could agree which one it was...im confused now.

Hmm: One is a migraine ( hemiplegic migraine) causing paralysis of one side and One is possible blockage then reopening of the blood vessel causing a mini stroke (TIA). It is confusing but leave it to your doctors to review the information and provide the best care. Good luck

Migraine vs TIA: Hemiplegic migraine describes a more generalized effect of migraine that often affects one side of the body. A TIA may present similarly but for a different reason. A migraine's effects are believed due to primary neuronal dysfunction, whereas TIAs are due to transient blood vessel occlusion. An MRI can rule out frank stroke but TIAs often do not show on MRI, hence the unclear nature of your sx.
