A member asked:

Being treated for c diff with oral vancomycin. when finishing the bottle, is it safe to switch to iv vancomycin orally to cut down on costs?

Probably not: IV vancomcin is probably more expensive if given in outpatient setting and requiring the supervision of doctors and nurses. It does depend, however on the provisions of your insurance plan. Hope that helps

Oral Vancomycin: IV vancomycin is not used to treat C diff. Oral vancomycin passes through the gut unchanged and is not absorbed by the body which makes it ideal since C diff it is hard to kill. Typically the IV forms of medications are more expensive than their oral counterparts.
