Was told by a dr to take 3 ibuprofen tablets 200mg each, 3 times a day for a couple of weeks. is this dosage safe since it's higher than recommended?

Yes. If: If kidney function is normal, and you don't have diabetes or high blood pressure. If kidney problems, you can't take any at all. If high blood pressure or diabetes, have to be careful and doctor needs to monitor your kidney function if you are to take an anti-inflammatory medicine. One last group: those with heart problems, especially if obese, smoke, ... should also ask their heart doctor first.

Yes: 1800mg of ibuprofen daily for 2 weeks is a typical anit-inflammatory dose.
