Most likely: Emma, 97-99% of all febrile illnesses in children are viral. Usually they will run their course in several days. If your child stops drinking fluids, starts vomiting uncontrollably, doesn't act right, or you see any other concerning symptoms, take them to their doctor. Hope this helps!

Probably: If the child is acting well, drinking fluids and acting normal when no fever then most likely a viral illness. If fever persists >2-3 days, if pt not acting well, not drinking fluids then needs to consider a different cause, possibly bacterial.
