A member asked:

Is fibroscan a good alternative to the liver biopsy? how accurate is it?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No: Fibroscan is an ultrasound type that non-invasively( no needles) measures the stiffness of the liver, and can tell if a person has severe hepatitis or cirrhosis, both advanced liver disease states. However, it cannot distinguish early and mild to moderate liver disease from a healthy liver condition, which is what a liver biopsy can do, as well as diagnose a variety of other important conditions
