A member asked:

Will having a fibroscan done for enlarged liver and spleen eliminate the need for a liver biopsy?

I wouldn't consider the information comparable. Examining the stained tissues under various levels of magnification give much more/different information than scans. All must be considered in context of why a study is done to begin with. Discuss this with the treating doc.

A biopsy provides far more definitive information than a scan.

A fibroscan provides different information than a liver biopsy does. Depending on what kind of liver disease is suspected, you may need either test or both. Talk to your gastroenterologist about whether the Scan would provide the information needed. Good luck.
