Sprain: Suggesting a sprain. He will need to see doc to have an X-ray and for further recommendations based on results. Rest, ice, compression, elevation, Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Ibuprofen for pain.

Rolled Ankle: Most likely suffering from an ankle sprain. Although it can be an ankle fracture also. Sounds like he should definitely be seen. Important to evaluate for other injuries such as tendon or other bones including the foot.
