Yes: Flu can cause either an increase in platelet count (thrombocytosis) or decrease in platelet count (thrombocytopenia). It causes much more thrombocytopenia than thrombocytosis. Its effect on platelet count is also age-dependent. Younger people tends to get an increased platelet count by flu infection, while elderly person tends to get decreaded platelet count by flu.
