Cough: You need to be evaluated and have a chest X-ray . Please stop smoking, it does nothing good for you. it stops your lungs from working correctly to clear themselves.

See a doctor: as soon as possible. You may have pneumonia or bronchitis, however only a doctor giving you a physical exam would be able to diagnose this. Being a smoker puts you at more risk for lung infections, so even more reason not to ignore this.

Need exam: Smoking puts you at risk for many illnesses so you need a chest CXR. Your symptoms suggest infection that involves the lining of your lung named the pleura which has nerve endings that cause pain with breathing. Smoking damages your lungs and can cause other chronic diseases such as bronchitis and chronic obstructive lung disease. Hope you feel better soon. Ask your doctor smoking cessation.
