YES: An article came out very recently which showed a strong connection between Vitamin D deficiency and Alzheimer's type dementia. As a result, I would strongly recommend that your Mom take 2,000/day of Vitamin D3 and discuss this with her primary doctor.

Yes: You want to keep the Vit D level above 30. (we usually monitor the 25 hydoxy Vitamin D level ) Some like to see levels above 50. The original data on the relationship between dementia and Vit D found a relationship in males. The data is still coming in. Several papers have appeared in the past few weeks.
