Need more info: Did your doctor do a throat culture for strep? If not it should be done. If positive & still not better then may need different antibiotic. If strep test negative then you may have a viral sore throat & do not need an antibiotic. Throat lozenges help with the pain. Gargling with an OTC mouthwash may also help relieve the pain better than Advil (ibuprofen). If no improvement in 4-5 days revisit your physician

Gargle: Warm salt water gargle really help w/ the pain. The saltiness matches the natural body fluid condition and is really soothing. Alternatively, some find that organic apple cider vinegar w/ or w/out a pinch to baking soda (fizzy) helps. Try either or both. The cider mix is okay to swallow - not the salt water. Tea w/ lemon juice and honey (I won't tell if you add a dash of rum) is good to drink.
