Cortisone injections: Cortisone injections can be very helpful for chronic joint pain. However, shots more frequent than every 4 months can increase your risk for vascular damage to the hip, known as aseptic necrosis. Steroids can have many side effects, although less likely when injected vs. oral meds. Long term use can suppress the immune system, cause osteoporosis, affect the adrenal system, impair wound healing.
