I got a cortisone injection last sept in my hip due to a bad back. is it safe to get another one? its the only thing that has helped.

Yes: In general about 3 corticosteroid injections per year to a joint are safe. If the last injection was in september, it would be safe to repeat it. However, it is unclear what type of injection you are referring to. Was this an si joint injection or a hip injection? Because it is unclear why a "hip" injection would help a bad "back".

Infrequent OK: If once a year, should not cause problems by itself--but, will still likely have ongoing degenerative changes, so may need surgery in future.
