A member asked:

I am a mature female triathlete (61 yr; 5'4"; 107 lbs) that recently developed rapid severe post-traumatic hip oa. is hip resurfacing an option?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Resurfacing : Has fallen out of favor for many surgeons as it is metal on metal articulation (hip and cup both metal) vs tradition metal on poly (hip is metal cup has plastic liner)..The problem with resurfacing is potential metal ion particles that are produced which can potentially damage organs and even the hip. Ask ur surgeon and inquire about an anterior approach total hip which spares your major muscles
